Great replacement(7.4.2011)
Nice and sturdy and well made. Getting the original plastic safety switch off wasn't too hard. I just had to cut into it with a Dremel, then snap it off the rest of the way, using some pliers. Then, using pliers, remove the original screw. This is all necessary because it's a one-way, security-type screw that isn't made to be removed. I'd hate to have to try to remove this new one, since cutting into it would be a pain, but I don't see that being an issue. I think I'd have preferred a normally slotted screw with some loctite, instead of the one-way security screw, though, just in case. Overall, another great product from Brownell's.
great(18.8.2011)
easy to install great when wearing gloves it's sturdy.
Worth the wait(27.9.2012)
Easy to install, my son did it by himself. Much easier to use than stock safety.
Works better than original(9.4.2017)
Would hav given 5 star but no instructions. They give u a web site that doesnt exist
Excellent Upgrade!(27.9.2017)
The original safety was not smooth and required excessive force to move. If your hands were wet/slippery you would have a hard time engaging/disengaging the safety.
I bought this and installed it on my 590 to facilitate rapid engagement/disengagement of my safety while shooting 3 Gun.
This piece is solid, and installation was simple after watching a YouTube video. The hardest part was the removal of the factory because the screw is a one-way head. Take your time and be careful.
This safety is very positive, and easily engages/disengages with the flip of your thumb, vast improvement over the factory.
"One way" screw? Really?!(20.6.2013)
I own a Mossberg 590, hence, I own one of these. I no longer use it, as I loath it. I bought a Brownells Enhanced Safety Button and installed it after removal of this screw. Some people have had much trouble removing this stupid screw, as it's designed to not be readily removable. Mine came out in seconds with a smithing quality wide blade flat head. I didn't know the pitch or diameter, so I took the safety block it threads into and hunted through thousands of old screws in my garage. I found one with similar threads and proceeded to remill it to work. Now I have a hardened high chrome content steel screw for my safety (cold blued). And this, this "factory screw" is relegated to a deep, dark recess. Known only as The Trench. I give it three stars only because it in fact fits.
Part fits perfect (28.3.2016)
When plumber gunsmiths come to me and say ' I've stripped a screw on the Mossberg 835...I stop and say you tried to unscrew it didn't you? Well yeah. Go back to apprenticing they're made that way. I just cut a rut in the flattened head and backed it out with a hammer and a forester flat head. New button screw...good as new!
Not A Good Value(16.10.2016)
I bought this for a model 500 ATP. All I had was a broken safety button, but decided to get all new parts. The description is vague, just reads "metal". I'm thinking from Brownells, it's Steel. Well, maybe aluminum or pot metal. It doesn't stick to a magnet, so who knows.
Second, the detent spring is twice the length of the original. Can't use the new spring. Last, a no tamper screw ? Really ?
Don't waste your money on this. It cost me $36 for the safety button, a buggered up screw (because it's a one way), and a little metal ball. I should have just bought the safety button being that's all I needed.
