A must for people who work on the A-5 (4.5.2010)

This is the very best screw driver set for ths A-5 Browning. They won't crack or chip if used properly. The steel is of high grade and fit the A-5 screw heads perfectly. Like the rating says doesn't get any better than this. Thanks for a great product.

Exactly Designed (25.4.2014)

I've used three of the bits so far on an Auto-5 built in 1947 (no schematics I've found with the trigger safety at the front of the trigger guard), yet to disassemble the trigger group. All fit precisely, variable screw head diameters but all slots are 0.025" wide.
Not included is a bit small enough to remove the three small screws holding the shell stop and carrier latch. A 1/8" pocket-type flat blade handles those. Most of you will have the roll pins anyway. I wish you well with that.

Broken Bit (30.9.2015)

I recently purchased a Browning A5 shotgun and didn't have the correct screwdriver bits to remove the stock or action of the gun.

I ordered this bit kit and the bits fit perfectly. I tightened the stock screw back up and snapped the bit right off. I called service to complain but realized after speaking to the very helpful rep that the bits are designed to snap off if too much torque is applied to prevent rounding off the gun screws.

I am a maintenance supervisor and agree that this is a great design and did probably protect the screw as I have a habit of "overtightening" screws and bolts.

Brownell's replaced the bit at no charge and I will be more careful in the future to torque them to spec.

Exactly what you need, but......... (27.6.2016)

I have no idea how you would disassemble an Auto-5 without these. These bits are ground super thin so that they fit all the browning flat head screws. The offshoot of that though, is that they are ground SUPER THIN!!! This makes them very delicate, but there is simply no other way to get the bits thin enough to fit the screws. On my particular Browning, it hadn't been field stripped in decades. I twisted the two smallest bits, which also damaged the two corresponding factory screws. No problem though, Brownells sells the screws and they replaced the bits free of charge. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again though, definitely the right tools for the job!

Right size, too fragile (27.8.2018)

These are what you need to work on an auto 5. Just that browning seems to think it's a good idea to apply more torque than should physically exist to all of their screws so you end up breaking these constantly. I order these in sets of 3 or 5 at a time because I know they won't last through more than 2 or 3 jobs at best.

Not a 1 star because it actually fits and is the right size.

Grrrrrrrrrrr........... (3.3.2011)

This was my first Brownell's purchase in many years. When I unpacked the tool, it was immediately noticeable that the white screw on cap was cross threaded. I removed the 4 tips and worked with the cap to finally get the threads to properly mesh. Upon putting the 4 tips back in the storage compartment, the cap once again cross threaded. At that point I noticed that with 4 tips in the storage handle there was not enough "head room" for the cap to screw on and the result was the cap cross threading before it bottomed out. Disappointed.

Browning Screwdriver Set (30.12.2011)

I didn't buy the handle, so I didn't have the problem the other reviewer had. But the blades on these bits are perfect for a Browning Auto-5 and better than the other gunsmith bits I have for most other firearms. The Auto-5 has a LOT of screws and if you're going to take one apart you'd better have the proper tools.

Superb kit for any A5 owner (24.5.2012)

I used this set to take down two seperate Browning Auto 5's and I have no complaints. I didn't mangle any of the screws and I find the fit of the bits to the screws to be excellent. If you have a A5, you should own this kit. For the price, there's no reason not to.

Bit Broke Immidiately... (21.4.2015)

The small bit used to loosen lock screws broke immediately when very moderate pressure was applied. These bits are much too weak to handle the job.

Small tip 210-1 broke pretty quickly. (13.2.2016)

Thin blade used to loosen screw that hasn't been turned in years will break. Next time I will start with heat. You really have to have this set or you WILL damage the screw heads. These are the right tools for the A5. At this price I just bought a couple sets which I do recommend.

WASTE OF MONEY (14.3.2017)

It doesn't come with a flathead for the small locking screws! And they are poorly designed, so they bend and or break.

UNNECESSARY & OVER-RATED (6.12.2017)

I bought this set with plans on using it to fully disassemble and reassemble a Browning A5 12-Gauge Magnum, thinking it would be almost be a "requirement". Wrong! I completed the entire job with just ONE of the four screwdriver bits included in this set, and that one bit was easily bent with even a modest amount of force applied to it. Consequently, I wouldn't buy into the hype about this set being unique to the Model A5, nor would I recommend this set to anyone. Its completely unnecessary. You'll do just fine with almost any thin, small, flathead screwdriver.
